(no subject)

I was going through the paper, looking for the unemployment section, and came across a full-page, full-color spread that was trying to flog Dell computers.

Excuse me, but when did PCs get so goddamn cheap? $560 for a nearly-top-of-the-line machine? What the fuck?

I paid $3000 for my computer, back in 1996. It was sexy then. Now... heh.

*crie* I want one. Better yet, I want a laptop. So many reasons to want a laptop now...

Eh, I see those, but I always find some reason in there why they are so cheapo.

Still, prices do slide downwards. Hell, the Banshee was still only $1200, and even after I added the $300 vid card, and my old SBLive! sound card, it's stil cheaper than a lot...and silky smooth as all-git-out. The Banshee is my baby.

Yeah, if Dells are anything like Hewlett Packards, they are a BITCH to upgrade.

And by "a bitch," I mean "impossible."

They still don't hold a candle to Compaqs...
If you're trying to upgrade them, it's not worth the bother.

(Be careful with new dells and upgrading the PS or the Mobo, they're pulling something with the voltages on the power cables that can fry a non-dell board)

THAT'S for sure. Still not as bad as Compaqs, though. Admittedly, the Banshee is an HP, butI have managed to get around pretty much every piece of proprietary software that is on it, and any other up grade I've done to it has been smooth sailing...she's a sweet piece of machinery, now.
