as the wyrm churns
Dec. 21st, 2001 11:49 amYesterday ended up being a really good day. I got a proper dev system set up, laid the groundwork for my next major implementation, hung out with
nottagoth and
inevitability, and ended up getting to go see Lord of the Rings.
Before you ask -- yeah, I enjoyed it. :P
The story: Joe called me up and said "Hey Bjorn! Let's go play pool!" So I met them at the Shark Club in Kirkland -- which is owned by my next door neighbor, as it happens. Unfortunately there weren't any tables open -- nor did it seem like there were going to be any in the near future -- so we decided to seek entertainment elsewhere. I don't remember if it was Jamie or Joe who suggested going to see Lord of the Rings, but it sounded like a plan, and we trooped up the street to the local cineplex, got tickets, and then ducked into TGI Friday's for an hour and got... well, not trashed or drunk, but pleasantly floaty.
Went to see the movie.
It was very, very pretty. And well-cast, though the fellow playing Elrond made my head hurt ("It seems, Mister Baggins, that you've been leading... two lives.") and there was an Elf in Rivendell who I swear, honest to gods, looked exactly like
scaled1. I was creeped out.
Liv Taylor and Cate Blanchett did nothing to abate my fetish for High Elven women.
Rivendell and Lorien were gloriously beautiful.
It was an enjoyable movie. I didn't have the post-coital glow that most of the hardcore Tolkien fans I know who've seen it have gotten, but... I enjoyed it. And oh, New Zealand is so gorgeous. Eee.
Tonight I'm taking
01flux to see the film. I won't mind seeing it again.
