Gotta have instant messaging and a cellphone and a landline for direct conversation.
Gotta have email for, well, mail.
Gotta have LiveJournal so you can let people know what you've been up to today.
Gotta have a webcam so your friends can see what you're doing right now.
Admittedly we're hip, with-it, cutting-edge kind of folks. But the networks are so integrated with our lives that we are literally almost never parted from them. They are transparent to us, we hardly notice them except when they are gone.
Two years ago, who would have complained when AIM was being flaky?
Borg, here we come. Not that I'm complaining. I'm an information junkie and crave social contact. It's so easy now...
