May. 26th, 2004 12:59 pmMartin and I have this ongoing mobius argument about neural interfaces. He says they're a terrible idea and that he would never get one; he thinks the risk of someone hacking it and giving you a grand-mal seizure (or just floating "DRINK COKE" banner ads every two minutes at the focus of your vision) would be too great, and that NI could never possibly hold enough of a benefit to be worth the risk.
I say I have a rotten memory and will forget to look stuff up on Google unless I do it at the spur of the moment, and that furthermore I find carrying hardware around with me extremely tiresome. What's more, I reckon that with a little attention to personal network security (call it "informational hygiene") the risk could be mitigated to, say, no more than the likelihood of getting murdered during a burglary.
What do you think?
