saga engine

I have come to suspect that Saga is not, in fact, a piezomewtronic crystal after all.

She is actually a search engine crawler!

Point one: Her entire face is a giant sensor. Huge eyes to see, pointed ears to listen, a sensitive nose to smell, delicate whiskers to feel. Much more of the feline head is dedicated to sensing than the human one.

Point two: Each time we bring something new through the door, she must inspect -- index -- it thoroughly, looking and sniffing and touching until every aspect of its appearance is catalogued. That task finished, she moves on to the next item in her queue.

Point three: She will periodically re-index things already in her database, in case there have been any updates.

Point four: Sometimes, she will attempt to optimize her object database for faster searches and more compact indexing, by moving them to a central storage location (namely, under the bed).

While she may be a search engine, she is not a very useful one. She frequently initiates denial-of-service attacks against chairs, couches, pillows and small objects. Her search result is always "mew" no matter what the query is. And she never, never, never honors your robots.txt file.

But she is still my very favorite search engine of all, and for every day that she is in my life, I click I'm Feeling Lucky.
