Well, the car ended up being way, way, way worse than I expected. Three leaking fuel injectors and a leaking fuel rail (that's a rectangular thingie that sits on top of the injectors and distributes the fuel that comes from the fuel line).
Parts, labor and a wrist-slitting amount of tax: $867.21.
That's a large portion of my remaining unemployment.
Which, by the way, runs out in December.
Job? Please? I applied for a bunch of random stuff the last few days, from data entry to file clerking to retail. I certainly don't want to chance that I'll be able to get a software job in the next few weeks. I have to pay for health insurance, car insurance, car payments, and so forth. So things are going to be... interesting.
Looking at working up to going back to school, much as I don't like the idea of returning to an academic setting. But it's obvious that the computer industry is not going to recover, at least not going to recover enough to be willing to hire someone with as little experience as I, any time soon...
If any of you have suggestions as far as what you think I might do, please let me know. I've thought about business, marketing, journalism and political science. Ideas are welcome.

I know tech support is so terribly beneath you, but it's money, and it's guaranteed 40 hours a week.
