Hmm? Oh, you didn't know I was moving? Suprise!

An unexpected benefit of my car getting totalled was a blessed release from over $500 a month of car payments, insurance payments and gas costs. That, plus the insurance settlement, is allowing me to move to downtown Seattle right now.

Since almost everything I do and everywhere I go is in the downtown area, I can eliminate the need for a car by moving, thus saving tons of money and improving the quality of my life by eliminating the stressful commute that caused so many of my accidents.

The location I've found is absolutely ideal -- it's on the corner of 8th and Pine next to the Paramount, on the 21st floor of a 25-floor tower. That means it's a short walk uphill to Broadway and the clubs, and a short walk downhill to the Pike Place Market and the waterfront. It's also a pleasant half-hour walk (or short bus ride) to work. The building itself is this really cool cylindrical tower, which manages to merge 50s futurism with 21st-century postmodernism and have it come off without looking silly or shabby. The apartment is recently painted; it's wired for the Net; all the appliances are brand new. And the cafe on the ground floor serves quality espresso.

I've always wanted to do this -- live in the middle of my beloved city, in the very heart of it, in a highrise apartment tower with a gorgeous view and a balcony. (Two balconies, actually). To get to walk the city's streets every day, surrounded by riches and squalor, the buzz and hum of electric city life. To sit on my balcony on a warm summer evening, sitting back with my laptop and writing... it's a dream come true, and I'm very excited.

The only hurdle now is the fact that I'm in the middle of dealing with finals week at UW, and because of all the stuff I have to do for school, I won't be able to pack until Friday morning. Fortunately I don't have much stuff, but it's still going to be a hell of a pain getting it all done. There's also the fact that I don't have anything like a couch, and the like...

But it'll work out. I have faith.
