the gentle benevolence of the mildy drunk

I went to China Mieville's reading with Allyson, Josh and Amanda, and picked up a copy of Iron Council to be signed. China Mieville proved to be as erudite and ironically funny as I expected, and took great delight in holding the secrets of Bas-Lag close. He uses the tricks of the world-builder's trade well, and very intentionally: reference things, but do not state them explicitly; it keeps your readers fascinated.
I then treated the four of us to what ended up being quite a magnificent feast at Cedars, after which Allyson went home to rest, Amanda was dropped off to play Shadowrun, and Josh and I headed to the club, where we drank lightly and soaked up the atmosphere. I pondered writing. I need to bring my laptop to the club more often; I seem to find it inspiring.
Interesting things may be in the offing at work. More information as details emerge.
Allyson is bright and sharp and quick, uncompromising of herself and beautiful in every way. And she looks angelic when she sleeps, so solemn and swathed in white covers, blond hair spread wild about her. Times can be difficult and I wish that I could make her more happy.
Saga is doing well; she wants for nothing and demands even more in the fashion of all kittens. She's growing at an astonishing rate; she's the size of a small adult cat now, almost.
More later, perhaps.
