Mystery solved. I just talked to another tenant, who says that the laundry room is being remodeled and the washing machines are having smartcard readers put in so that we won't need to use quarters for laundry anymore. He only knows this because he happened to see the machines being removed and asked what was going on. The machines were taken on Friday and were supposed to be back today, but the floor in there was supposed to be replaced first and that obviously hasn't happened yet.

Not having to use quarters would be nice, but they could have, you know, TOLD US. Posted some signs, at least.

Update: Apparently there were "problems" that "affected the timeline" and the machines won't be back until Thursday. So, uh, I have no clean clothes and don't have the time or ability to get to a laundromat. Fuckers.

Could always taxi your way to a laundromat and later present the landlord w/ a bill for the ride + washing. Dunno whether that's practical, but it sounds nice.

There is a lundromat at 12th and Denny that will do your laundry *for* you, for a reasonable fee. Drop it off in the morning (say, on your way to work), pick it up that evening. A buddy of mine worked there for years (hell, might still). It worked out to be about the same cost as doing it in my apartment, except I didn't have to do the laundry :).
