i was shucking some corn to have for dinner and there was this HUGE CATERPILLAR that had eaten its way into one of the ears of corn and had carved itself this caterpillar-shaped channel.

I thought it was dead.

Then... in the heat... I'd just taken it out of the fridge... it started WAKING UP.

THERE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LIFE FORMS IN MY CORN

This is why $deity gave us pesticides and genetic engineering!

There are billions of bacteria, and probably thousands of small insects there as well. :D

If I can't see them, they might not be there.

Hush.

I'd rather have a bug in my produce than pesticides.

Not if you'd seen this bug.

Or what it'd done to the corn.

Eew.

Welcome to life in the 'country'. You learn to check them apples. The local critters will enjoy it.

They taste kinda like peanuts if you cook 'em up!

Well, some of them.

God forbid you have food that actually... *gasp* supports life!

That would be a tragedy of practically immeasurable proportions, yes.

I had one of those. I think it was dead. Anyway, I cut it and its demonic habitat out and ate the rest of the ear. Mmm, corn.

Genetic engineering which in turn caused the mutated caterpillar (of doom!) to awaken in your domicile, bent on wreaking havoc on all your vegetables!

Not if you make the corn carnivorous and aggressive. Bug free *and* you have to beat it into submission before you harvest it.

Ah, but fresh caterpillar is so tasty, crunchy-squishy, and full of nutrients!

...hey, at least it'll digest, unlike GMO corn.
